Front Porch: My toughest role

Hi Beautiful,

Hands down, the most challenging AND most rewarding role in my life is being a mother. As much as I love it, there are also moments when it’s really, really tough.

Especially as neither one of these kids was born with an instructional manual. (I should know, I was there.)

That’s one of the reasons why I was delighted to interview child psychiatrist Dr. Zabina Bhasin on a recent episode of The Kim Gravel Show. She gave us 6 tips on raising ADULTS, not kids.

What a concept.

The entire episode is definitely worth your time to listen to, but if you want to cliff note, check out today’s article.

Article: 6 Timeless Parenting Tips from Child Psychiatrist Dr. Zabina Bhasin

Raising kids in today’s world is not for the faint of heart. Especially for those of us who know we’re raising future adults. To make matters more complicated, we’re bombarded with parenting advice, right? Everyone wants to share their tips for raising kids. So how do we know which tips work best?

Enter Psychiatrist, Child Development Expert, and parent Dr. Zabina Bhasin, who joined me on a recent episode of The Kim Gravel Show to talk about just that; she shared some of her best tips for raising adults, not kids. This is timeless advice you can trust, no matter how old your kids are, where you live, or how busy you are.

Dr. Zee learned as a young child that “We’re actually more similar than we’re different and our differences don’t separate us—they bring us together.”

That message became the foundation for her work professionally and in terms of her mission to create a sense of belonging for every child.

Loving who you are means loving all the different parts of pieces of you, and that’s one of the reasons why I love this Twisty Twin Cuff.  It embodies the deepest version of you, with all of the many pieces and parts bound together and winding in an infinite spiral of self love.

Catch up: From Paul Scheer Finds The Joy In His Traumatic Childhood

The incredibly talented Paul Scheer is on the show, and this week’s episode is like a Netflix binge of life lessons served with a side of laughter and an extra helping of wisdom.

Paul is an actor, podcaster, and comedian who you’ll recognize from shows like Fresh Off The Boat, Veep, The League, and Black Monday. He wrote a fantastic and funny new book called 'Joyful Recollections of Trauma’, about the lessons he learned from his difficult childhood.

Paul has an incredible gift for using comedy and joy to engage with difficult issues like abuse and divorce. His perspective is inspiring and funny as we discuss topics like navigating childhood traumas, finding joy in the simple things (hello, Dairy Queen Blizzard!), and the transformative power of accepting yourself. Paul’s ability to find the joy and laughter in his harrowing past is a masterclass in resilience and reframing perspective. You can’t miss this episode of The Kim Gravel Show.
